Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 ounce taco seasoning (about 2 tablespoons)
  • ½ cup salsa

Dough & Cheese

  • 16 ounces refrigerated crescent roll dough (2 cans)
  • 2 cups freshly shredded cheddar cheese

Toppings (Optional)

  • Salsa
  • Sour cream
  • Avocado
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Sliced jalapeno peppers

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the taco ring.
  2. Cook Onion: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Brown Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onion and taco seasoning. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is fully browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes.
  4. Add Salsa: Stir in the ½ cup of salsa into the cooked beef mixture. Remove the skillet from the heat and set aside.
  5. Prepare Dough: Open the cans of crescent roll dough, unroll, and separate the triangles.
  6. Arrange Dough: Place a sheet of parchment paper on a large baking sheet or pizza pan. Put a bowl about 6 inches wide in the center of the pan. Arrange the crescent dough triangles around the bowl with the short sides facing inward and overlapping slightly to form a ring.
  7. Fill Filling: Spoon the beef and salsa mixture evenly onto the bottom of the crescent triangles inside the ring. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously over the top.
  8. Fold Dough: Fold the pointed ends of each crescent triangle over the filling and tuck them underneath the dough ring to seal.
  9. Bake: Bake the taco ring in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm with your choice of taco toppings such as salsa, sour cream, avocado, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, and sliced jalapeno peppers.

Notes

  • Using fresh shredded cheddar cheese melts better than pre-shredded varieties with additives.
  • Salsa can be mild or spicy depending on your preference.
  • Be careful not to overfill the crescent dough to avoid leaking during baking.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven for best results.
  • This recipe can be made in advance by assembling and refrigerating the ring before baking.
