Pickles in a Blanket Recipe

  • Author: Aiden
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 32 pieces 1x

Description

Pickles in a Blanket are a deliciously savory appetizer featuring mini dill pickles wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough, filled with a creamy mixture of cream cheese, cheddar, and crispy bacon. These bite-sized treats are brushed with an egg wash and sprinkled with dried dill before baking to golden perfection, making them perfect for parties, snacks, or game day.

Ingredients

Scale

Pickle Wraps

  • 2 (8 ounce) tubes crescent rolls
  • 32 mini dill pickles, patted dry

Filling

  • 4 ounces (1/2 block) cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • ¼ cup bacon pieces
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Egg Wash & Seasoning

  • 1 egg
  • ½ Tablespoon milk (or water)
  • Dried dill, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Crescent Rolls: Unroll both tubes of crescent rolls. Slice each tube down the middle to create 16 strips from each, totaling 32 strips.
  3. Make Filling Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, bacon pieces, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix well until evenly incorporated.
  4. Assemble Pickles in a Blanket: Spread about one tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture onto each crescent roll strip.
  5. Add Pickle: Place one mini dill pickle at the wide end of each crescent strip on top of the cheese mixture.
  6. Roll Up: Carefully roll the crescent strip from the wide end over the pickle and cheese mixture, forming a neat roll. Place each roll seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Apply Egg Wash & Seasoning: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk (or water). Brush this egg wash over each roll to give a glossy golden finish. Sprinkle dried dill over the top of each roll for added flavor.
  8. Bake: Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and puffed.
  9. Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Pickles in a Blanket warm as a tasty snack or appetizer!

Notes

  • Make sure to pat the mini pickles dry to avoid soggy dough.
  • You can substitute bacon pieces with cooked and crumbled sausage or omit for a vegetarian version.
  • Use full-fat cream cheese for best flavor and texture.
  • Dried dill adds a nice herbal touch, but fresh dill can be used if available.
  • These can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking; add egg wash and dill just before baking.
