Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 5 oz All purpose flour
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp brown sugar
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup Non fat Greek Yogurt (Fage)
- 1 large egg (reserve a little for egg wash)
Instructions
- Add Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sea salt, baking powder, and brown sugar to create the base for your dough.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: Add the non-fat Greek yogurt and beaten egg to the dry ingredients, reserving a small amount of egg to use later as an egg wash.
- Combine Dough: Stir all ingredients together well until a dough forms.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a well-floured surface and knead it for about 5 minutes until smooth. Alternatively, you can use an electric mixer with a dough hook for this step.
- Divide Dough: Cut the dough into 4 equal pieces.
- Shape Cylinders: Roll each piece into a cylinder shape.
- Form Bagels: Shape each cylinder into a bagel by connecting the ends, forming a ring.
- Prepare to Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper and place the bagels on it.
- Apply Egg Wash: Brush the bagels lightly with the reserved beaten egg to give them a shiny, golden crust.
- Bake Bagels: Place the baking sheet on the highest rack in the oven and bake the bagels for 20-25 minutes until they are slightly browned on top.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, you can bake a pan of water in the oven to create steam while baking.
- Make sure to knead the dough well to develop gluten and improve texture.
- If you prefer a sweeter bagel, increase the brown sugar slightly.
- Store leftover bagels in an airtight container and consume within 2 days for best freshness.
