  • Author: Aiden
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6 donuts 1x

Description

These colorful Fruit Loop Donuts combine the nostalgic crunch and vibrant colors of Froot Loops cereal with a soft, tender donut base. Baked to perfection and topped with a sweet cream cheese glaze and extra cereal for crunch, these donuts make a fun and visually appealing treat perfect for breakfast, snacks, or special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

Donut Batter

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup finely crushed Froot Loops (about 1 cup whole cereal)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ¼ cup butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • pink food coloring (about a quarter sized amount)
  • 1 cup Froot Loops (whole)

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • Additional Froot Loops cereal for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a donut pan with nonstick spray to prevent sticking and set aside.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all purpose flour, finely crushed Froot Loops, baking powder, and salt, ensuring even distribution of leavening agents.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Make a well in the center of the dry mixture. Add granulated sugar, buttermilk, melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and pink food coloring. Start whisking the wet ingredients together inside the well.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, continuing to whisk until you have a thick batter. Then fold in the whole Froot Loops using a spatula to maintain their shape.
  5. Pipe Batter into Pan: Transfer the batter into a pastry bag for easy handling and pipe the batter evenly into the six cavities of the donut pan, filling them sufficiently but not overflowing.
  6. Bake Donuts: Bake in the preheated oven for 9 to 10 minutes, or until the donuts bounce back lightly when touched, indicating they are cooked through. Remove and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Make Glaze: In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine powdered sugar, vanilla extract, milk, and room temperature cream cheese. Stir continuously with a rubber spatula until the glaze is smooth and uniform in texture.
  8. Glaze Donuts: Once donuts have cooled enough to handle, dip each donut into the glaze to coat evenly. Place back on the wire rack and immediately top with additional Froot Loops cereal to add crunch and decoration.

Notes

  • Use a fine crush for the Froot Loops included in the batter to ensure the donuts maintain a tender crumb.
  • Adjust the amount of pink food coloring to achieve your desired shade; gel food coloring works best for vibrant color.
  • Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature before making the glaze to prevent lumps.
  • Pipe the batter carefully for consistent donut shapes and avoid overfilling the cavities to prevent overflow in the oven.
  • Donuts are best enjoyed the same day they are made, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
