Ingredients
Scale
Dough Ingredients
- 1½ cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon yeast
- 3½ cups flour
- 1 tablespoon salt
Garlic Butter Topping
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon parsley, minced
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes until the yeast becomes foamy, indicating it’s active.
- Make Dough: Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a smooth dough forms. Allow the dough to rise for 10 minutes; using a stand mixer with a dough hook can simplify this process.
- Shape Dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into strips approximately 8-10 inches long.
- Form Knots: Roll each strip in your hands into rope-like shapes and tie them into knots.
- Second Rise: Place the knots on a greased baking sheet and let them rise for another 10 minutes to puff up.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Bake the garlic knots for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: While baking, melt the butter and mix in garlic powder, minced parsley, and olive oil thoroughly.
- Brush and Serve: Once out of the oven, brush the garlic butter mixture generously over the knots. Sprinkle the grated parmesan cheese on top and serve warm.
Notes
- For best results, ensure the water is warm but not hot to properly activate the yeast.
- You can substitute garlic powder with fresh minced garlic for a stronger garlic flavor.
- Adding a pinch of Italian seasoning to the garlic butter mixture adds extra flavor.
- Store leftover knots in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to retain crispiness.
- Parmesan cheese is optional but highly recommended for added savory taste.
