Ingredients
Scale
Bread and Spread
- 12 slices sourdough sandwich bread
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (½ stick)
- ¾ cup mayonnaise (divided)
Vegetables
- 4 leaves romaine lettuce (cut in half crosswise)
- 8 slices tomato
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
Meats and Cheese
- 8 slices cooked bacon
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 8 slices deli turkey
- 8 slices deli ham
Instructions
- Toast the bread: Toast all 12 slices of sourdough bread until they are lightly golden and crisp. This provides a sturdy base and delightful crunch for the sandwich layers.
- Butter the slices: Lightly butter both sides of each toasted bread slice using about 1 teaspoon of unsalted butter per slice. This adds richness and helps to enhance flavor.
- Spread mayonnaise: Lay out 8 pieces of bread and spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on one side of each slice. This adds moisture and tanginess to the sandwich.
- Add lettuce and tomato: On 4 of the mayo-spread slices, layer the halved romaine leaves and tomato slices. Season lightly with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to enhance their natural flavors.
- Layer bacon: Place the 8 slices of cooked bacon evenly on top of the lettuce and tomato layers to add a savory crunch.
- Prepare meat and cheese layers: On the remaining 4 slices of bread with mayo, layer the cheddar cheese slices first, then the deli turkey, followed by the deli ham. Arrange ham side up for proper stacking.
- Stack the sandwich: Carefully place the meat and cheese layered slices on top of the bacon-layered bread slices, aligning the sandwich components.
- Top sandwich with remaining bread: Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on one side of the remaining 4 bread slices. Place the slices mayo side down on top of the turkey layer to complete the sandwich stack.
- Secure and slice: Use toothpicks to secure each sandwich to prevent layers from falling apart. Slice the sandwiches diagonally or into desired portions and serve immediately.
